Have you ever been on a hot air balloon ride before? If yes, then you know that this is an unforgettable, magical experience. However, you’re still in for a surprise, because no two balloon rides are alike. First of all, the landscape below your feet is always different. Even if you choose the same launch site, the landing spot will be different. How come? Our trained and experienced pilots can trick the wind and choose an altitude where the wind blows exactly in the direction they want to go, but in the end, the hot air balloon is steered entirely by the wind, so it’s up to the breeze to decide where to take you.

Secondly, nature shows a different face every day. Depending on the weather, the time of day and the season, the landscape below your feet can be totally different from the one you’ve seen on a previous ride just a short time ago. Hot air balloons are majestic creatures that can give insight into nature itself. Would you like to know what it’s like to drift in the breeze as a cloud? Or even better, do you want to trade places with the wind itself? Hot air balloons are very special flying instruments that travel with the wind.

Funnily enough, this means that in a balloon it’s not windy at all, because balloons pose no resistance to the breeze. Instead, they become one with the moving currents of air, letting themselves go where the wind wants to go. This is an almost spiritual experience that leaves many guests of our hot air balloon rides relaxed and at peace with themselves. You can see that a hot air balloon ride provides a versatile experience that is unlike anything else. You get to see the landscape, man-made and natural alike, become one with nature and find an inner peace that stays with you long after you’ve touched down. It’s no wonder that many of our guests keep coming back for more.

What does a hot air balloon ride look like? What can you expect when you first arrive at the launch site?

Your adventure begins on the ground when you get to watch how the balloon is inflated. Then, it’s time for you to embark on the most beautiful journey of your life. Your pilot turns the burners on and as they heat the air inside the balloon, the majestic airship lifts into the air, carrying you and your loved ones with it. Feel the wind stroke your face as it gently slides your balloon across the sky, and hear the delighted cries of your children as they point out the sights below you. Cars, houses, trees, people, everything becomes new and exciting when seen from above. Make sure to bring your camera to immortalize your journey. Once you disembark, don’t forget to share your experience with us in our guestbook, and over your choice of social media as well! Don’t hesitate to call us at 1-855-266-7627 and let us lift your spirits!

United States Hot Air Balloons has a selection of services you can choose from. The most popular (and most economic) option is a shared balloon ride. This means that you ride in a basket with other people who reserved a balloon flight for that particular time slot. We choose the size of the balloon and its basket based on the number of bookings for shared balloon rides we have for that day. If you arrive with a larger company, make sure to mention the number of people at the time of your booking.

United States Hot Air Balloons knows that the unique experience of ballooning is even more enjoyable if you share it with the people you love. Bring your friends and family along for the ride and marvel at the breathtaking scenery below from the safety of a hot air balloon basket. See the excitement shining in your children’s eyes as they watch the burners in action, lifting the balloon high into the sky! Our hot air balloon rides are an experience that you and your family will never forget.

The best way of travel, however, if you aren’t in any hurry at all, if you don’t care where you are going, if you don’t like to use your legs, if you don’t want to be annoyed at all by any choice of directions, is in a balloon. In a balloon, you can decide only when to start, and usually when to stop. The rest is left entirely to nature.William Pene du Bois

Usually above the age of six, children are tall enough to see above the rim of the basket. They also have a longer attention span, which allows them to enjoy the ride as much as adults. The sound of the burner and the experience of lifting off the ground doesn’t frighten them any more, and they get to ask all the questions that pop into their heads about ballooning, as well as the scenery below. Feel free to bring your children with you, regardless of their age. However, infants and toddlers might not be old enough to fully appreciate the experience, and they may become frightened by the sound of the burners.

A hot air balloon ride usually doesn’t affect people who are afraid of heights or who suffer from motion sickness. In fact, little motion is perceived in the basket, as it’s moved by the wind without any resistance. If the scenery wasn’t changing below your feet, you wouldn’t even notice you’re moving at all! Another piece of advice: dress according to the season, in layers of clothing. Funnily enough, you’ll need the warmest clothes for your time on the ground, while you watch the balloon being inflated. Once you step inside the basket for your ride, you’ll find that as a side effect, the burners heat the air in the basket as well. You can adjust your clothing as the temperature changes throughout your ballooning experience.

– Hot air balloons are among the oldest flying instruments. The first hot air balloon was manufactured in France in the 1700s.

– The first creatures ever to ride in a hot air balloon were a duck, a sheep, and a chicken. The ride took about eight minutes, and all passengers arrived back on the ground, safe and sound.

– The longest hot air balloon ride covered more than 5,000 miles in the air. It took off in Japan, flew above the Pacific Ocean at an average speed of 245 miles per hour, and touched down in northern Canada. The pilot was Richard Branson. This journey was also the fastest hot air balloon ride recorded in the history of ballooning.

– Almost any weather is good for a hot air balloon ride, except when it’s raining. The raindrops that land on top of the balloon are heated by the burners to boiling point, which damages the fabric of the balloon.

– The largest hot air balloon festival is organized in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The event takes place each year, and it presents more than 750 hot air balloons. The festival lasts for nine days.

– The history of hot air balloons features not only romance, peace, and tranquility, but also war and espionage. During the Civil War in America, both sides sent hot air balloons behind enemy lines for reconnaissance missions.

– The highest altitude a hot air balloon has ever traveled to was 68,986 feet. The record was achieved by Vijaypat Singhania and his co-pilot. Both of them had to wear oxygen masks to be able to breathe at such an altitude.

– A champagne ride is one of the most romantic ballooning package offered. Originally, champagne was distributed at the end of a balloon ride for a very different reason. In the early days of ballooning, the sight of a colorful flying creature made people think of dragons. Therefore, if a balloon landed on somebody’s field, the pilot quickly invited his unhappy and often quite fearful host to a glass of champagne to convince him the balloon was not a dragon.

– Most hot air balloon rides are accompanied by a chase crew. This doesn’t mean balloon flights are considered dangerous: the chase vehicle follows the balloon on the ground to collect it at the end of the ride and transport it back to the launch site. For this reason, the chase vehicle must be big enough to hold the balloon, the basket, all the equipment, and the passengers.
